5 Best Date Night's with Dogs

Date night's with dogs can include some awesome adventures or quiet times with your date, significant other and your dog.

In a dog's world, the best dates are the ones where you sneak out for a cup of coffee and a walk, or stay home and snuggle on the couch playing with your dog. But getting out and having a date night with your dogs is an opportunity to include the love you have for your dog!

Does it surprise you that 86% of dog owners would break up with their significant other if they weren’t a fan of their dog? Uh, yeah! With our furry friends, some things are simply non-negotiable.

Thankfully, date nights can be dog-friendly and made even more fun with your furry friend.

Here are our best dog-friendly date night ideas with the dog. Oh, and with the significant other, too.

    date nights with dogs

Date night's with Dogs at a Dog-Friendly Restaurant or Brewery

While extremely fine dining may not be possible with furry friends, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a bite out with them.

Nowadays there are countless bars and restaurants with outside seating that allow dogs.

You may find these with a quick map search, but calling ahead is recommended to ensure your dog has a figurative spot at the table.

While most restaurants, particularly those with outdoor seating, will be happy to fill your dog’s bowl with water. We suggest you bring along a chew toy and perhaps a collapsible water bowl for your dog.

After all, they can get jealous of the amazing foods and drinks you’ll be enjoying!

Local Hiking Path for 4, or 2!

    hiking with dog

Another outdoor option with a furry friend is to go on a local hiking path or trail.

If you’re bringing a human date and their furry friend along, having dogs with similar stamina is ideal. However, even larger, more high-energy dogs can have fun on shorter trails as well.

You don’t need a human date for this one, either!

Depending on your dog’s athleticism, some dogs absolutely love and are even built for hiking. Going solo with your dog will also make it easier to match the trail terrain and length to your dog’s needs.

Make sure you read up on each hiking trails’ rules regarding dogs and keep your dog leashed.

Even if the hiking trail in question allows for unleashed dogs, it's always best to keep your furry friend on a leash for at least your first visit to a new trail, especially if your dog's recall isn't the greatest.

This can ensure that they stay by your side while getting accustomed to an alternative route.

Picnic, Complete with Food, Blankets, and Dogs

Who doesn’t love some beautiful sunshine, food, and furry friends?

A picnic could be the perfect date idea that is also socially distant and customizable.

Prepare a large beach towel for you and your date, alongside plenty of sandwiches, snacks, and a cooler.

Don’t forget your dog’s favorite treats either!

The one downside to picnics is the ease at which dogs can start grabbing at your food. You can solve this by offering them their own treats, or locating a picnic table at a nearby park.

If you’re planning far enough in advance, you can start your date early by baking homemade treats for your dog at home.

We have countless recipes here at House that Barks, including these quick 30-Minute Banana Pumpkin Dog Treats.

This is the perfect opportunity to play fetch with you and your date’s dogs. Bring along your dog's favorite ball or frisbee and you'll be all set.

If your dog isn’t too keen on playing for hours, consider bringing a plush blanket or dog bed specifically for them to rest on while you eat and enjoy some sun.

Picnics can offer experiences similar to going to a restaurant to eat, with greater flexibility, zero wait time, and zero table occupation limits.

    Staycation Date with the Dogs

Alright alright, maybe the outdoors isn’t for you. Or maybe it’s too cold where you live to try some of these dog-friendly date ideas.

What else can you do with your human date and your dog pup?

    Consider hosting a staycation!

Depending on your school or work schedule, you can take a few days off to host a mini-vacation at home. Alternatively, you can also take a weekend to host a staycation Friday-Sunday.

There are countless puzzle and chew toys ideal for in-home use with your dog. And what about your human date?

Learn a few new recipes together and enjoy home-cooked meals. You can also take this time to learn a few of our dog treat recipes, too!

Finally, whether or not your human date is staying the night, you can enjoy a comfy, warm cuddle with your dog each night of your staycation.

After all, sharing a bed with your dog is safe and can even help relieve anxiety. That’s what we call a vacation!

It’s alright to admit it-who else has an innate love for shopping?

Consider bringing your dogs on a shopping date to enjoy the mood boost of shopping alongside your furry friend.

Some world’s most pet-friendly stores include Petco, Bath and Body Works, and Nordstrom.

Be sure to double-check pet policies at your local chain, as each store may differ.

When taking your dog shopping use a short leash will make directing your dog easier in case they get excited by many people around.

If your furry friend is a service or emotional support animal, consider purchasing a labeled vest for them. This will help to distinguish them from other pets and deter strangers from asking to pet them.

And who doesn’t love to buy clothing for your dogs? So you can shop for amazing items for the favorite humans in your life and your favorite dogs, too!

    Furry friends are lifetime partners!

If you're in the dating stages, then you'll want to explore with the intention of potentially living together in the future, you’ll want to know how your potential partner will treat your pet.

If they have a dog as well, this becomes even more important.

Thankfully, by planning a few dates that not only allow but can feature dogs as key parts of the date, you’ll become more informed on a potential date’s attitude toward pets.

So what are you waiting for? Grab your date, your dog, and perhaps their dog too for an exciting day hike date or staycation weekend. The more, the merrier.
