Instructions for Quick and Easy Dog Food Topper
Ingredients Used
- 1 ¼ Cups Oat flour
- ½ Carrot
- ½ Bag frozen peas
- ½ cup Chia seeds
- ¾ teaspoon Tumeric
- ⅛ teaspoon Black pepper
- ½ c Coconut oil melted
Oat flour - I like to place my oats into a food processor and surge until a flour-like consistency. After that, if you need more oats, use them whole without surging.
Carrot - For this recipe, you'll want to shred your carrots to make it easier for your dog's digestion.
Bag frozen peas - Only use ½ bag of peas for this recipe.
Chia seeds - Chia seeds are a nutrient dense superfood for humans and your dogs.
Turmeric - Turmeric is a wonderful anti-inflammatory for your dogs.
Black pepper - Pepper adds some taste.
Coconut oil melted - Coconut oil has a wide variety of uses and health benefits. It can be used for baking dog treats, hair, skin issues, or a topical lotion for dogs.
Supplies Needed:
Food processor - There's a wide variety of food processors or you can even use a NutriBullet.
Mixing bowl - I highly recommend the deeper bowls that have the silicone bottoms to help prevent the bowls from sliding everywhere.
Measuring cups - Recently I purchased new measuring cups only to have the handle bend when putting in ½ cup of flour for my Apple and Blueberry Dog Treats. Now I highly recommend buying measuring cups with sturdy handles.
Microwave-safe bowl
Cookie sheet - Choose a cookie sheet with sides to hold your Oat and Vegetable Topper in place and not spill out into the bottom of the oven. Grease the cookie sheet before using.
Directions:
If need to make the oat flour from minute oats, add the oats to food processor and sure until fine. Otherwise you can use the oat flour.
Cut carrot into smaller pieces and add to food processor to shred the carrots. By shredding carrots, this makes it easier for your dog to digest their food.
Add your oat flour, carrots, Turmeric, pepper, and chia seeds to mixing bowl and stir, mixing well.
Melt coconut oil in microwave about 20 seconds, then add to mixing bowl and stir.
Slowly add ½ bag of peas to mixing bowl and gently mix into your dog food topper.
Place mixture into a sided cookie sheet and press down. You'll want to make sure that you're spreading your topper mixture evenly so that when it bakes, it cooks evenly.
Bake for 45 minutes in 375-degree oven. Oven temperatures can vary so keep watch to make sure it's not burning.
Let cool in the pan.
When it's cooled, pour a scoop onto a dish of dog food and watch your dog dig right into eating. If you have a picky dog, your dog will be scarfing this oat and vegetable topper down in no time.
Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.
