If you've got a dog. You're dealing with Dog Hair. Enjoy these tips with these 5 Best Vacuums for Dog Hair.
Dog hair! Seriously, it seems to stick to everything but my dogs! I need a vacuum cleaner that can suck up those coarse pet hairs that seem to stick everywhere.
Ruby, my Goldendoodle hardly sheds at all. Which is great, except she's a magnet for tracking in every piece of dirt or leaf in the yard... oh, but did I say, she doesn't shed! lol
Then there's Callie, my Labrador Retriever. She's cute as a button, but sheds like crazy!
It's winter right now, so she's not in full coat blowing mode. I can only imagine what it's going to be like come spring and summer! Oy Vey!
Why I need a new Vacuum for Dog Hair
My old vacuum broke. I really can't blame all of it on the dogs. After all, there was a lot of my hair and string and who knows what wrapped around the roller and belts on my old vacuum.... ( I'm so embarrassed to say that. )
Honestly, I vacuum several times a week. Where this stuff comes from, I'll never know...The fairy dust of dog hair is fast at work, I just know it!
Either way, I needed a new one! My old one crapped out on me.
Something that can stand up both to my dog's insidious shedding and my losing hair...they say humans lose up to 100 hairs a day! It better not be more than that!
My Criteria for Vacuums for Dog Hair
This is terrible and I know it, but I literally went to the store and bought vacuum cleaners to test them on how well they picked up dog hair. I know, I know...I'm terrible.
Why can't there be sample vacuum cleaners to test for a week before buying!
- It had to lift the fine hair that seems to wedge itself into the fibers of my rugs.
- Have attachments that worked well on a couch.
- I prefer a bagless vacuum cleaner. It was easily interchangeable on carpet, hardwood floors or tile floors.
- I have all 3 in my house. If something got stuck, it was easily taken apart to locate the clog.
- Had a good warranty for at least a year.
- Bonus: If it could vacuum the car.
- Was lightweight and easy to roll around.
- Replacement parts were easily found.
- Vacuum cleaner parts could be washed and cleaned.
Best Vacuum Cleaners for Dog's Hair
The first vacuums I grabbed were a couple of upright vacuums. I've always had uprights and really liked them, especially if they had the right attachments.
Bissell Crosswave Pet Pro All in One Wet and Vac
The Bissell Croswave Pet Pro All in One Wet and Vac is lightweight and had excellent suction.
- Easily picks up the coarse hair of larger breed dogs.
- It has a 27 ft chord. Longest chord I've ever seen in a vacuum cleaner.
- 5 attachments make it a breeze to clean under and over anything.
- Best part is that everything, except the motor, can be washed in the sink!
- The filter is washable and re-usable.
- Has a multi-surface pet roller and pet hair strainer for easy cleaning.
- Mops and Vacuums all in one machine.
Shark Rotator Pet Vacuum
The Shark Rotator TruPet Vacuum Cleaner is super strong!
- I think you could suck a bowling ball through this hose!
- Best part this vacuum is super quiet.
- While it definitely picked up the dog hair, I found the hose was a little short.
- However, you can simply remove the canister and take it with you. Great for stairs.
Dyson Animal Ball Vacuum Cleaner
Dyson Animal - Guys, this vacuum picked up dirt and hair left behind from the other vacuum cleaners.
I was a little wobbly with the Dyson ball vacuum at first, but you quickly get the hang of it after a few passes.
- I could move this vacuum under furniture, around corners with no problems.
- Very easy to operate and the bonus - all the parts are replaceable.
- I was super impressed at how easy it is to unclog the hose or roller.
- It's definitely pricey, but well worth it.
Dyson V8 Animal Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner
I recently purchased one of these easy to hold cordless vacuum cleaners and I'm in love!
With two dogs in one household, it makes cleaning the carpets, floors, and tiles a breeze, and best of all it only needs one vacuum!
It's great for daily use and for picking up that spring shedding dog hair. It has a small holding container, so you have to empty it often.
- Cordless with powerful suction.
- Washable filters.
- It runs about 30-40 minutes before it needs to be recharged.
- Lightweight and easy to use.
Which Vacuum I Picked and Why
Honestly, I don't think you could go wrong no matter which vacuum cleaner you picked. They all seemed to work great.
However, If you haven't guessed it, I went with the Dyson Animal Vacuum Cleaner. I couldn't pass up how clean it got my carpets in dealing with pet hair.
I also have the Dyson Stick Animal Vacuum and love it! It's so lightweight and easy to use that I can use it daily. I then run my larger Dyson Animal Vacuum Cleaner once a week as it does get a bit deeper clean than the cordless handheld vacuum.
I can easily use it on my hardwood floors with a touch of a button. For me, being able to unclog the hose and roller is a big deal. I'm forever sucking up something that will cause an instant clog.
With the Dyson, I can easily clean it out. I love all the attachments.
There's even a mini vacuum attachment for my couch that easily sucks up those stuck on dog hair strands.
It's definitely the expense: if it lasts for the next 10 years keeping my house clean, it will be worth every penny. I'll keep you updated!

We use a Rainbow vacuum cleaner. We have had one for many years. We have German Shepherds and a Catahoula and boy can they shed!! I like the water because the vacuum cleaner doesn’t smell like dog, and the hair can’t fly away. It can be a hassle sometimes to empty when it’s freezing outside, but more than worth it.

Thank you for this. I have friends that have a Catahoula and Shepards as well. Great dogs! I am not familiar with Rainbow vacuum cleaners, but will look into those. I have both a Goldendoodle and a Lab. The Lab sheds! I'm always on a hunt for anything to help keep my home clean. Thanks for sharing.
