Not only are these treats easy to make, but they also offer a host of health benefits for your four-legged friend.
Before diving into the recipe, lets briefly discuss the advantages of homemade dog treats.
By creating treats at home, you have complete control over the ingredients, ensuring your dog receives only the best.
Commercial treats often contain additives, preservatives, and artificial flavors that may not work for your dogs dietary needs.
Homemade dog treats, on the other hand, allow you to cater to your dog's preferences while prioritizing their health and well-being.
This was inspired by my 20 minute Pumpkin and Oat Doggie Treats on this site, and pairs well with Frozen Pumpkin Paws Dog Treats recipe.

Pumpkin isn't just a fall favorite for humans - it's also a nutritionial powerhouse for dogs. Rich in fiber and minerals, pumpkin can aid in digestion, promote a healthy coat, and even help with weight management.
It's natural sweetness is a hit with dogs, making it a perfect ingredient for homemade dog treats.
Oatmeal: A Wholesome Grain
Oatmeal is another star ingredient that adds both flavor and nutrition to your dog's treats. Packed with dietary fiber, it supports digestive healthy and helps regulate blood sugar levels.

Add pumpkin, and mix until you have a dough.
Gather dough using a cookie or ice scoop and place onto cookie sheet.

Hint: You can make these treats two ways. You can leave them as scoops and bake or gently press down to form a "disc" shaped treat. Baking time is the same for both ways. I like to use this cookie scoop (affiliate link) for scooping the dough.
Substitutions
If you're looking to substitute pumpkin in homemade oatmeal and pumpkin dog treats, there are a few alternatives you can consider using.
- Sweet Potato - instead of pumpkin, try using sweet potatoes. They're rich in vitamins, fiber and antioxidants. You can use mashed cooked sweet potato in place of pumpkin.
- Butternut Squash - use butternut squash to replace pumpkin. It has a similar texture and flavor to pumpkin. Roast and puree the squash before incorporating it into the recipe.
- Applesauce - Unsweetened applesauce can provide moisture and flavor to the treats. While not as thick as pumpkin, it's a suitable option to consider.
Remember, any ingredient substitution should be made with care. You may need to add or take away some water to make a dough consistency.
