Why is an all-natural Pet Stain & Odor Remover important?
Over the counter manufactured enzymatic cleaners are harmful for dogs because they are much closer to the floor than we are.
And harsh chemicals will affect them much more than they will for us humans. Besides, the harsh strong odors the manufactured enzymatic cleaners seem to permeate the house once used to clean.
Because of this we prefer an all natural homemade dog cleaner. The fewer harmful chemicals we expose our dogs to.
An enzymatic cleaning product must be used to do away with the dog urine odor in order to stop the dog from going back to the same spot to do their business.
Bonus: This homemade stain and odor remover also works for mild stains like spaghetti sauce and cleans and deodorizes without leaving residue.

The spots that have been neutralized will have a dull glow rather than the vibrant, almost neon colored spots that those that have not been neutralized have.

How to Make a Homemade Cleaner
We make this homemade Dog pee Cleaner using 4 ingredients you probably already have around the house. It takes just minutes to make.
Before applying any cleaning solution, test a small area to make sure it doesn’t counteract with your carpet.
Using Dawn Dish soap, white vinegar and baking soda, you’ll be able to make a simple and effective cleaner.
When mixing the ingredients, you’ll notice that the baking soda will fizz as they react to each other. This is perfectly normal.
In fact, before you mix your solution, sprinkle a little baking soda over the dog urine stain, letting it soak into the carpet fibers. You may hear a fizzing sound when the baking soda counteracts with the pet urine.
When you’ve mixed your ingredients for your natural cleaner. Generously, soak the area with the water/vinegar solution and saturate the carpet down to the carpet fibers with your cleaning solution.
The urine most likely has soaked all the way down into the carpet pad, and this must treat as well.
The solution must have at least 24 hours, preferably 48 hours, to digest the protein in the urine.
The area must stay moist and not allowed to dry out for this time period.
You can do this by covering the area with a piece of plastic or garbage bag. Hint: Avoid plastic with print as the ink could “tattoo” the carpet.
A phone book or some other heavy object over the bag will help secure it. After 24 hours, uncover the area and allow it to dry thoroughly.
Resist the temptation to shampoo this area. Vacuum up the stain and odor from the carpet.

With puppies and senior dogs, I had to find something that would clean up the urine out of the rugs and wouldn’t destroy my rugs or carpets from the harsh chemicals.
Plus, I wanted a pleasant odor cleaner that masks the dog pee smell.
Controlling Odors
Dogs have a sense of smell that is at least one hundred times more sensitive than the human nose. That’s why they often go back to the same spot because they can smell the ammonia from the last time there was an “accident.”
This is why using an enzymatic cleaning product, either manufactured or homemade, is the best way to clean up dog pee.
By doing away with the dog urine odor in the carpet, it will stop the dog from going back to the same spot to do their business.
It’s important to follow the instructions for any enzymatic cleaning product. If you want them to be successful.
These products work to break down the chemical nature of the ammonia, helping to eliminate the smell of ammonia that triggers a pet to “mark” the spot again.
Whether you go with an all natural cleaning recipe or a store bought cleaner, these products are safe to use not only on carpet but on clothing, bedding, draperies, upholstery, and other water-safe surfaces.
